Last Week at the Auction - Top 10 Results Show (S5 Ep6)

Here we go…. it is LAST WEEK AT THE AUCTION. America’s Favorite top 10 list of Auction Results from around the globe & I am your Host JOSH LEVINE. Back again with the latest and greatest from the auction world. It’s only been a few weeks, and I have missed you. I just had a few things to do. It’s last week at the auction… Coming in at #10 is a Case of Dick’s Beer that bought $3000 at Matthew Bullocks. And here I’ve been throwing out empty cases of beer. Who knew? But seriously, Brewiana or beer collectibles are hot. Next #9 check out this RCA Victor Special Phonograph that sold for $4000 at Donley. I’d say special. My first impression was this was made for NASA but no…It was from 1935. Crazy cool and I totally get the price. #8 A National Cash Register just brought $6000 at Abell. This was approx. 20” by 20” by 16” for perspective and a wood grain. I am super impressed with that price. Typically, the smaller Candy Store or Ornate Brass Models command this kind of money. I would have missed this one at shop thinking a few hundred dollars. I am going to need to take a second look. #7 An Andy Warhol Signed $1 Bill just sold for $8500 at DuMouchelles. I wish I could deface currency with my signature and make it worth $8499 more. But I guess I’ll just have to keep my day job. #6 A Charles I Period Chair brought $10,000 at Thomaston Place. Circa 1648, this was a wonderful 17th Example and very rarely come up for auction. Almost 400 years old, this is the kind of antique I wish could talk. But sadly, I think Pee Wee Herman had the only talking chair, at least that I can remember. #5 A Photograph by Eudora Welty sold for $13,000 at Leland Little. Titled a Woman of the 30s, Eudora Alice Welty was an American short story writer, novelist, and photographer. Best known for her writings about the American South. Keep an eye out for vintage regional photography as well as this Pre-War Americana. Tis the Season for this next one. #4 is the Santa on the Chimney Figure that brought $25,000 at Bertoia. 16” tall, circa 1880 and German, this guy illustrates the demand for all things vintage Christmas. #3 is a wonderful Victrola Double-Sided Dealer Sign that rang up $30,000 at Donley Auction. Circa 1920 this Victrola outdoor sign would have been offered for sale exclusively to Victor phonograph dealers. At 35" long that’s almost $1000 an inch. With the buyer’s premium and taxes, I am sure it was. Not bad. #2 A Chinese Flambe Moon Flask brought $150,000 at Thomaston Place. 13” tall and incised with the Qing, Qianlong reign seal mark I don’t think I have to say it. Antique Chinese. Pay attention. Okay, #1 is an Enfield Shaker Desk that just brought $280,000 at William Smith Auctions. This continues the antique furniture upswing I have been reporting on. It’s now officially hot. Now mind you, this is a fine and well-documented true Shaker piece as opposed to the Shaker style or attributed pieces out there, but I still see a trend. Let’s all keep an eye on it. Is it only happening regionally? Is it a real trend? I’d love to hear your feedback. And hey, those of you watching this season, thanks for checking out Shipping Saint, and thank you for sharing how much you love it. You guys keep saying the same thing. I wish I would have known about these guys years ago. Everyone loves their amazing platform. Shipping Saint makes it better for you, your business, and your customer. Next #9 is the Eight Piece Chinese Chippendale Patio Set that brought $4900 at Leland Little. #8 Two Sailor's Shellwork Valentines brought $8500 at Freeman's. #7 A Set of 14 Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica Plates just did $11,000 at Hindman. #6 The Doyle Lane Blue Seed Pot just sold for $12,000 at John Moran. #5 A Bob’s Big Boy Neon just hammered for $15,000 at Morphy’s. But next up is a NEW AUCTION WORLDS RECORD…. #4 A Burger Beer Camel Can just brought $46,215 at Morean. #3 Is the Chippendale Mahogany Side Chair that brought $50,000 at Freeman's. #2 A Beatles 1966 Shea Stadium NY Concert Poster just did $120,000 at Heritage. #1 The "Chaffey College" Apple-1 personal computer just sold for $400,000 at John Moran’s. Last Week at the Auction - Top 10 Results Show (S5 Ep4)

Here we go…. it is LAST WEEK AT THE AUCTION. America’s Favorite top 10 list of Auction Results from around the globe & I am your Host JOSH LEVINE. Back again with the latest and greatest from the auction world. I hope you enjoy these finds and maybe learn a thing or 2. I always do. So, here we go. It’s last week at the auction… Coming in at #10 is the Jane Peiser 3 Figure Planter that hammered for $1200 at Leland Little. Approx. 20" Tall, unsigned but unmistakably by this wonderful North Carolina Potter. I love finding hidden gems in Art Pottery field. Thanks Joe Pandur. #9 is this Eli Harvey Desk Bronze that brought $3500 at John Moran’s. Known as “Lioness With Kill” and dated 1904 this little gal was only 9.25” long for perspective. That is a great find. #8 Check out this 1796 Draped Bust Silver Quarter that realized $13,500 at Matthew Bullock Auctioneers. Only graded F12, that price truly illustrates the rarity of coinage like this. As well the demand. This one is a beauty. #7 is a Van Cleef & Arpels 18K gold and gem-set bangle that brought $18,900 at Freemans. Remember that name and think big bucks. And speaking of big bucks, I am featuring some furniture in this episode as prices are ticking way up. I believe for several reasons. 1) Styles change and things come back. Like ABBA, 2) The upcycle mind set and a little nostalgia plus paying respect to the originals. And, 3) That crappy reproduction you want is sitting on a cargo ship or at the docks so you got to go auction baby. I Love it… Okay, so let me show you. #6 American Chippendale Desk and Bookcase brought $38,000 at Brunk Auctions. True 18th Century and from Connecticut, it’s great to see a 250 year old piece commanding money again. And speaking of which. #5 A Pair of Philadelphia Queen Anne Side Chairs sold for $46,000 at Westport Auction. Queen Anne Style was popular in the mid-18th Century and apparently coming back. Maybe Netflix is to blame. Or is it Outlander? But alright. This one is for you Mid Century Fans. #4 is a Wendell Castle Game Table that hammered for $100,000 at Rago. Signed WS and dated 1975, it was in his catalog raisonne of known works. Super cool. His stuff is out there. But enough about furniture. Here is some super cool stuff. #3. Captain America’s Shield brought $259,540 at Hakes. This was a Chris Evans Prop Shield from End Game. Cool right, but if you are like me, you are already thinking, this was a prop. There were more made for the franchise. Where are they? And I know where I can get more of these next one’s. A time machine. #2 Is the Skull of a juvenile triceratops that sold for $679,500 at Christies London. Or about $500,000 British Pounds converted. Who would want one of those? But this one takes this week’s cake. #1 is A Rare Portrait Sand Bottle that hammered for $780,000 at Hindman, setting the world record for this rare genre of collectible. And this one was by the master Andrew Clemens and this is the only portrait he was know to have done in the medium. The bottle stood at 8-3/4” tall and has lasted all these years. Now that is what I call a lot of free time on your hands. And if you work at auction house or estate sale company and you want more free time… Check out Shipping Saint - https://try.shippingsaint.com/ If you enjoyed the show, subscribe below because I have more on the way. A Roycroft Copper Vase that just brought $3750 at Abell So, what is next? #6 Is a set St Louis Crystal Goblets that sold for $4,250 at Leland Little. That’s for sure and always remember to bring your black light. It makes reading the acid-etched marks easier at the thrift store. HERE’s A GREATE ONE https://amzn.to/3jkVlbx Never use it in a hotel room...ever. But I digress...check this out. #5. is a Paul McCobb Rolling Serving Cart that brought $5000 at Wright.
